SERVICES OFFERED:

• Women’s & Men’s Health
• Therapeutic Exercise
• Visceral Manipulation
• Craniosacral Therapy

After earning her B.S. in Exercise Science with an emphasis in sports medicine from Winona State University in 1997, Amy’s career began in a rehabilitation clinic assisting clients through injury recovery. She was driven to help each client regain a normal level of function and return to an active life.

Her early work inspired her, and Amy went on to further pursue a career in massage therapy. After earning her degree as a Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) in 1997, she graduated from the Milwaukee School of Massage in 2003, becoming a Wisconsin Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT). She has continued her education with additional specialized training to build her experience and achieve Expert status in her field as well as become a Full Instructor within the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release seminars.

Amy realized her dream in 2003 when she opened the doors of Natural Balance Therapy as a pain management clinic committed to helping clients heal through a holistic, total-body approach.

Amy’s mission is to help each client reach their goals by treating the cause of pain, rather than just the symptoms. She believes in listening to each client’s unique story, needs and goals, and then developing the most practical and effective healing plan for them. Her holistic approach includes teaching clients self-healing techniques they can use at home and considering the daily activities of each client to advise subtle changes that can make all the difference toward realizing desired results.

Amy loves traveling and spending time in nature. She has enjoyed her solo travels and those with her husband on their motorcycles, seeing much of the US and Canada on two wheels and camping along the way. Amy is also a devoted animal lover who loves to watch the wildlife in her backyard. She enjoys spending her quiet time reading a good book, especially while curled up next to a roaring fire.

Kristin Schwengel – LMT, BCTMB

SERVICES OFFERED:
• Expert Myofascial Release (MFR) Therapist
• Lymphatic Drainage Therapy
• Craniosacral Therapy Treatment

Kristin’s interest in the healing arts led her to the Lakeside School of Massage Therapy in 2004 where she received her massage therapy training. Her approach to treatment utilizes a holistic integration of the body and mind.

With a constant desire to learn and grow, Kristin has since continued her education and chosen to specialize in Myofascial Release (MFR) Therapy and Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT) because of their gentle but profound effects for healing. Kristin’s dedication has allowed her to achieve Expert level status within the John F. Barnes MFR approach, as well as become a teaching assistant within Chikly’s Lymphatic Drainage seminars.

Kristin seeks to work in partnership with her clients. One of her favorite moments during a client’s healing is when they get an “a-ha,” realizing that their results aren’t short-lived, but lasting. She loves hearing her clients say, “I feel taller,” or “I can breathe so much easier,” as they begin to connect within their bodies.

Her passion for learning has led Kristin to pursue new challenges outside of work. She is a published author and is constantly diving into new interests from knitting to studying Medieval and Renaissance history. Kristin loves music and her cat, Gandalf. Many evenings she can be found knitting something cozy with Gandalf curled comfortably on her lap.

Lisa Widder – PTA, LMT

SERVICES OFFERED:
• Myofascial Release (MFR) Therapist

Lisa Widder, PTA, LMT, is a myofascial release therapist with over 13 years of experience in the healing modalities. With a compassionate approach and expert guidance, Lisa has been instrumental in helping her clients regain functionality and reclaim active lifestyles.

Inspired by her own personal journey as a mother to three grown children, Lisa developed a deep interest in the healing arts when one of her children required physical therapy for sensory integration. Witnessing the transformative work of the therapist, Lisa’s fascination with the human body was ignited, propelling her to delve further into the intricacies of our body’s processes.

Lisa began her career as a Physical Therapy Assistant in Rockford, IL, where she spent a decade at OrthoIllinois, assisting individuals in their recovery from sports injuries, neck and back injuries, and joint replacements. Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Lisa expanded her skill set by becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2021.

Ever curious to expand her knowledge, Lisa constantly seeks opportunities to enhance her therapeutic abilities. Over the years, she has immersed herself in various educational pursuits, attending courses on kinesio-taping, cupping, and advanced sports rehab. However, it was the profound impact of myofascial release that resonated deeply with Lisa, leading her to embrace the John Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach. She believes that addressing the whole person—body, mind and spirit—is key to healing. Lisa’s passion for making a positive impact in the lives of those she serves is evident in her unwavering commitment to their well-being.

Hailing from the beautiful state of Wisconsin, Lisa revels in exploring the natural wonders of the Midwest. She approaches each season with unbridled joy and enthusiasm, embracing the unique beauty it offers. "I started coming to NBT because I needed an alternative to medications for chronic migraines and I wanted to regain control over my own health. Immediately I noticed the deep knowledge and intelligence of NBT's therapists. It was obvious that they have devoted themselves to their craft and had skills that, in my mind, were closer to those of physical therapists. My sessions leave me feeling great and I no longer take prescription meds. The greatest gift I have been given from NBT is the knowledge for my own self-care. Their classes have been extremely informational and helpful for building my knowledge of techniques. I've worked with Cindy, Linda, and Kristin. All are equally skilled, top notch, and bring their own unique set of skills to a session."

"For years I've been aware of the need for pelvic floor work due to my history of sexual molestation and pelvic injuries. Due to fear, I put it off until recently when I came to NBT for therapy. Amy, your approach and technique is both safe and painless. The mobility in my right leg up into my hip is an awesome feeling of freedom. I know I have more treatment ahead of me to get even more relief in my coccyx and sacrum, however I am more optimistic than ever for the possibilities of going into the aging process pain-free."

- Patricia Knaebe, Business Owner, Massage Therapist
"I came to NBT looking for true healing. I now have greater ease of movement, improved mental clarity, and decreased pain. The difference is the results stay unlike previous treatments where it only lasted a short time. The therapists at NBT listen to what I'm saying and when I'm not able to be seen they have taught me how to bring relief to my own body with self-treatment tools and classes. NBT added a piece of serenity to my life that I had lost. The sessions calm the inner self, I'm not only healing the physical body, but also the mental piece. Priceless!"

- Heather Maynor, Business Owner
"My experience at NBT has been wonderful and life altering. I initially came in for treatment to relieve myself of shoulder pain. I now have improved mobility and am essentially pain-free in my shoulder, hip, knee, foot, and finger. The treatments are provided in a relaxed, therapeutic environment with individualized attention. NBT's treatments follow the anatomy and physiology of the body and leads to lasting results. MFR fills in where physical therapy and orthopedics cannot!"

- Christine Bartos, M.D.
"NBT's clinic location is wonderful, very welcoming and calming. I came to NBT struggling with stage 4 endometriosis, insomnia, and digestive issues. Kristin's lymphatic drainage session vastly improved my immune system. If I had known about lymph drainage earlier, I believe I could have avoided surgery to remove lymph nodes. Linda's raindrop therapy and Myofascial Release have helped my immune system/detox, as well as finding relief from a repetitive motion shoulder injury. I know healing doesn't happen overnight and I plan to continue with NBT because I've experienced improvement all-around."

- Kate B., Production/Designer
"A back surgery in 2013 forced me to retire from a very busy Cardiology practice. Prior to finding NBT I had tried a number of rehab methods without success. Myofascial release has allowed me to return to golfing, standing, and traveling without fear of back, hip, and leg pain. Keep up the great, caring therapy you provide."

- Frank E. Cummins, MD, FACC
"Part of the education and training I received while getting treatments at NBT was that you don't necessarily directly treat the injured or painful part of your body. Myofascial work is somewhat like a "dance." You explore and examine all areas of the body that possibly may be restricted. By gently and patiently treating my whole body (and not just the painful neck and back), my body was able to start healing on its own. The results were amazing...through consistent and thoughtful care from Amy and all of the other therapists, I was eventually pain free. I feel grateful to have stumbled across Amy Beyer and her wonderfully caring and talented group of therapists at NBT. If you are at "the end of your rope," and have tried everything to treat your pain with limited or no results, please give NBT a call. They are amazing...you will be in "helpful and healing hands!"
